Rainbow Developmental Learning Centre Educational Facility |
Babies’ room (6 weeks – 12 months)
It is very important for babies to feel comfortable in their environment. Therefore it is our aim to create an environment that is warm and secure for all children. Through constant communication between parents and staff we endeavor to maintain each child’s individual routine.
- General information
In the Babies Room we cater for a max of 10 children per with 2 staff members (one qualified and an assistant). Relief staff is always around if an extra hand is needed.
- Meals/Bottles
The centre supplies both cows’ milk and soy. Formula milk will need to be supplied by you. You will also be required to bring all bottles that are clearly labeled.
- Activities provided:
- Language:
Our approach to infant language development is easy as close interaction with the babies in charge, such as by making eye contact and mimicking their noises, playing finger games. Nursery rhymes are an important part of our daily program.
- Reading:
Long before infants can walk and talk, they have been exposed to the different sounds around their environment, especially to the parents and caregiver’s voices. That’s why reading nursery rhymes and simple stories to infants are a part of our every day program.
This repetitive practice helps babies to develop their language skills and offer a change in the sounds and words they get every day. When babies look at the pictures in the book and listen to the story, they are learning that pictures have meanings. When our staff members point out things in the pictures, infants starts to connect the pictures with words.
Infants have short attention span, so reading activities should be short and fun as it is in the Early Learning Childcare Centre Rainbow. Books for infants made of cloth, soft plastic and totally safe cause they like to put everything in their mouths to explore.
- Music:
Creating sounds with objects fascinates the babies. They need feeling, touching, seeing the things.
We use small-sized percussive instruments (bangers as wooden spoons, spatulas, rolling pin) to engage the children's attention, and to develop hand-eye coordination.
Babies are captivated by different sounds, and by the 8th month, they understand the pitch of sound. They are, according to Montessori, also sensitive to differences and similarities in sound. To make sounds themselves we provide Montessori sound boxes.
- Sensory development:
Everything is new to babies, and it’s highly important to give him objects to look for, to hear and to touch. We provide theme flashcards and developmental photo albums to show, and photo with postcards in pouches, mobiles, pictures in the side of the cot for babies to inspect. Babies prefer All our toys and materials are brightly coloured and safe, don’t have detachable part and used under supervising.
All our activities for babies are scheduled according to the fact the babies are in a receptive frame of mind. If they are not hungry, thirsty, tired or miserable, they are able to play and learn.
